Research Use Boundary
Purpose
Recursive Systems Labs (RSL) produces research intended to support understanding, diagnosis, and inquiry across complex systems.
This document defines the boundary conditions under which RSL research may be used, shared, and applied.
The purpose of this boundary is clarity, not control.
Intended Use
Research produced under RSL is intended for:
- Theoretical exploration and hypothesis development
- Diagnostic and sense-making applications
- Educational contexts
- Clinical support and training environments
- Open academic discussion and critique
RSL research is offered as a framework for inquiry, not as an authoritative or prescriptive system.
Prohibited Use
RSL research is not intended to be used for:
- Military or paramilitary systems
- Weapons development or targeting
- Psychological operations (PSYOPS)
- Behavioral manipulation or influence campaigns
- Surveillance, profiling, or population control
- Autonomous decision-making over individuals or groups
- Enforcement, punishment, or compliance mechanisms
These uses fall outside the ethical and conceptual scope of the work.
Diagnostic, Not Directive
RSL research emphasizes diagnosis over prescription.
It may:
- Clarify structure
- Reveal patterns
- Support professional judgment
It must not:
- Issue commands
- Replace human responsibility
- Enforce outcomes
- Be treated as a moral or decision-making authority
Judgment remains human.
Non-Transferability of Intent
The technical sophistication of a framework does not imply permission for unrestricted use.
Capability does not equal authorization.
RSL research may not be repurposed into prohibited domains without explicit violation of this boundary.
Responsibility Acknowledgment
RSL recognizes that research, once published, can be misused.
This document does not claim perfect enforcement. It declares intent, responsibility, and refusal.
Where use conflicts with this boundary, RSL does not participate.
Relationship to Applied Systems
When RSL research informs software systems (e.g., clinical platforms or SDKs):
- Governance precedes deployment
- Human oversight is preserved
- Scope is deliberately constrained
- Observation and review are required
Application without governance is considered misuse.
Closing
This boundary exists to protect:
- Human agency
- Clinical integrity
- Academic trust
- The long-term viability of the work
Research that cannot tolerate restraint is not research RSL pursues.
